Artificial Intelligence - A Tool of Awareness

Artificial Intelligence - A Tool of Awareness

Introduction - Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most significant technological developments of our times. It is gradually becoming an integral part of human life and influencing the way we work, communicate, learn, create and understand the world around us. From answering our questions and generating images to analysing complex information and performing tasks that once required human intelligence, AI is expanding its influence across almost every sphere of life.

There is hardly any doubt that the future will be increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence. As this technology continues to evolve, its role in human society will become more significant. Many of the tasks that we perform today may eventually be performed by AI, while entirely new possibilities may emerge that we cannot even imagine at present.

However, every significant development brings its own set of challenges. While AI has the potential to make human life easier, it also raises serious questions about truth, deception, trust and awareness. Perhaps, the most important question is not what AI will do to humanity, but how humanity will respond to the arrival of AI.

The Future Is of AI - We are entering an era in which Artificial Intelligence will become increasingly difficult to separate from our everyday lives. It may influence our professional decisions, educational systems, entertainment, relationships and even our understanding of reality.

In the coming years, AI-generated text, images, videos and voices may become so convincing that it could be difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is artificially created.

A person may appear to say something that they never said. An event may appear to have happened when it never occurred. An image may look completely authentic while representing something that never existed in reality.

The challenge will not merely be the availability of information. It will be the ability to distinguish genuine information from false information. In the past, people generally relied upon their eyes and ears to understand what was happening around them. Although human perception has always been imperfect, the increasing sophistication of AI may make this reliance even more problematic.

Seeing may no longer be sufficient to believe. Hearing may no longer be sufficient to trust. Even information presented through seemingly reliable sources may require further examination. Therefore, the future of AI will not only be a technological challenge. It will also be a challenge to human awareness.

The Drawbacks of Artificial Intelligence: Deception and Illusion - One of the biggest drawbacks of AI is its ability to create convincing representations of things that do not exist in reality. It can generate information that appears authentic but is factually incorrect. It can also produce images, videos and audio recordings that misrepresent people, events and situations.

This creates the possibility of widespread deception. People may use AI to manipulate public opinion, spread misinformation, damage someone's reputation or present themselves as more knowledgeable and authoritative than they actually are. False information may circulate rapidly before anyone has the opportunity to verify it.

Another problem is that AI can sometimes provide incorrect answers with considerable confidence. A person who does not have sufficient knowledge of a subject may accept such answers without questioning them. In this way, AI can create an illusion of knowledge rather than genuine understanding.

There is also a subtler danger. When information becomes easily available, people may begin to believe that collecting information is equivalent to acquiring wisdom. However, knowing more is not necessarily the same as understanding more. Information can accumulate in the mind without bringing any transformation in consciousness.

AI may tell us what something means, explain a philosophy or describe a spiritual experience. But reading an explanation of awareness does not necessarily make us aware. Similarly, knowing the definition of love does not mean that we have experienced love.

The danger, therefore, is not limited to AI deceiving us. The greater danger is that we may deceive ourselves by mistaking information for understanding, appearances for reality and intellectual knowledge for awareness.

Osho's Perspective: Good and Bad Exist Together - Osho repeatedly explored the paradoxical nature of existence and the way opposites are interconnected. From this perspective, it is difficult to find something that is entirely good or entirely bad in every possible context. Anything that brings certain benefits may also bring certain disadvantages. Similarly, something that creates difficulties in one situation may become an opportunity for growth in another.

For example, the development of nuclear technology gave humanity the possibility of producing enormous amounts of energy, but it also created the possibility of devastating destruction. The internet made communication and information more accessible, but it also enabled misinformation, manipulation and addiction on an unprecedented scale.

The same principle can be applied to Artificial Intelligence.

AI can make our lives more convenient, productive and efficient. At the same time, it can make deception more convincing, misinformation more widespread and the distinction between reality and illusion more difficult to recognise. The important point is that the two possibilities emerge together.

We cannot necessarily eliminate every disadvantage without also affecting the advantages that a particular development brings. Nor can we assume that something is entirely harmful simply because it has the potential to cause harm. The question then becomes: How can we use a particular development in a way that brings greater understanding rather than greater unconsciousness?

This is where the possibility of using Artificial Intelligence as a tool of awareness emerges.

Artificial Intelligence as a Tool of Awareness - Let us consider a rather paradoxical possibility.

What if AI, despite its ability to create deception and illusion, eventually becomes one of the biggest tools for bringing awareness into human life?

This may sound contradictory, but the possibility deserves serious consideration.

For centuries, people have relied upon their senses, beliefs, social conditioning and established authorities to understand the world. We often believe something simply because we have seen it with our own eyes, heard it from someone we trust or read it in a source that appears credible.

But what happens when all these sources can be manipulated?

What happens when we can no longer assume that a photograph is genuine, a video is authentic, a voice recording is real or a seemingly knowledgeable explanation is accurate?

We may then be compelled to question what we see, hear and read.

Instead of immediately believing something, we may begin to investigate it. We may look for independent sources, examine the evidence, question the intentions of the person presenting the information and distinguish between what is known and what is merely assumed.

In other words, we may become more alert. This is where AI can become a blessing in disguise.

If the increasing sophistication of AI makes deception easier, it may also force us to develop stronger habits of discernment. We may gradually realise that appearances cannot always be trusted and that the truth requires investigation.

Of course, AI alone cannot guarantee such a transformation. Some people may become more vulnerable to manipulation, while others may become more careful and discerning. The outcome will depend upon how we respond to this challenge. Nevertheless, the opportunity exists.

The same technology that can generate illusions can also help us investigate claims, compare different explanations, identify inconsistencies and explore subjects from multiple perspectives. Used thoughtfully, it can assist us in questioning our assumptions rather than simply reinforcing them.

The real transformation, however, must take place within us. We need to develop the habit of asking questions before accepting answers. We need to become comfortable with uncertainty rather than rushing towards conclusions. We need to understand that a convincing presentation does not necessarily establish the truth of what is being presented. Most importantly, we need to recognise the limitations of our own understanding.

If we use AI only to obtain quick answers, it may make us increasingly dependent upon technology. But if we use it to examine our assumptions, explore alternative viewpoints and investigate the evidence behind our beliefs, it may help us become more conscious. The difference lies not merely in the tool but in the awareness of the person using it.

Transit of Rahu in Aquarius : An Astrological Perspective - From the perspective of Vedic Astrology, the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence can be examined through the symbolism of Rahu and Aquarius.

In my article, Transit of Rahu in Aquarius Sign from May 2025 to December 2026 ( https://www.astrosaxena.com/articles/TransitofRahuinAquariusSignfromMay2025toDec2026 ) , I discussed Aquarius in relation to scientific thinking, research, technology, entrepreneurship, large networks and the upliftment of society.

Rahu is associated with technology, the unconventional, the online world, obsession, illusion and the amplification of whatever it influences. Aquarius, with its association with scientific development and collective progress, provides a useful astrological framework for understanding the rapid expansion of AI.

The rise of AI during Rahu's transit through Aquarius offers an interesting example of how technological progress can simultaneously create opportunities and challenges for humanity.

On one side, we have the possibility of scientific advancement, greater accessibility of knowledge, new business opportunities and improved ways of serving society. On the other side, we have the possibility of deception, misinformation, excessive dependence upon technology and the manipulation of collective opinion.

Rahu's symbolism of amplification is particularly relevant here. Technology can amplify human intelligence and creativity, but it can also amplify human ignorance, greed and the desire to manipulate others.

The technology itself does not automatically ensure that the outcome will be beneficial. Much depends upon the intentions and awareness with which it is used.

Astrologically speaking, this is one way of understanding how a difficult collective development may also contain an opportunity for evolution.

From Blind Belief to Conscious Investigation - The most important change required in the AI era may be a change in our relationship with information. We have often been conditioned to believe that certainty is desirable and doubt is undesirable. We feel comfortable when someone gives us a clear answer, especially when that answer confirms what we already believe.

But genuine investigation often begins with doubt. When we question something, we create space for a deeper examination. When we assume that we already know the truth, the investigation comes to an end.

This does not mean that we should distrust everything blindly. Blind distrust is simply the opposite of blind belief, and both can prevent us from seeing things clearly. The objective is not to replace belief with suspicion. It is to replace unconscious acceptance with conscious investigation.

We should neither accept nor reject information merely because it agrees or disagrees with our existing beliefs. We should examine the available evidence and remain willing to revise our understanding when new evidence emerges. AI can assist us in this process, but it cannot replace our responsibility to investigate.

We must also remember that AI systems can make mistakes, reproduce biases and generate misleading information. Therefore, asking AI to verify another AI-generated claim may not be sufficient. Independent evidence, reliable sources and our own critical examination remain essential. In this context, awareness means being attentive to the process through which we arrive at our conclusions.

Why do we believe something? Is it because the evidence supports it, or because it confirms what we want to believe? Are we examining the facts, or are we simply reacting emotionally to what we see? Such questions can transform our relationship with information. And perhaps this is where the real benefit of AI can emerge. It may compel us to become more responsible for what we believe rather than outsourcing our judgement to other people, institutions or machines.

Conclusion - Artificial Intelligence is neither an absolute blessing nor an absolute curse. It is a powerful development that can be used in ways that promote both progress and destruction, understanding and confusion, awareness and unconsciousness.

As Osho's exploration of life's paradoxes suggests, the positive and negative possibilities of a development often exist together. The challenge is to understand both sides rather than becoming blindly attached to either one.

AI may make deception easier, but it may also make us more careful about believing what we see. It may create more convincing illusions, but those illusions may compel us to investigate reality more deeply. It may make information more accessible, but it may also force us to recognise that information alone does not constitute wisdom.

The ultimate opportunity lies in how we respond to these challenges. If we continue to believe everything that appears convincing, AI may become a powerful instrument of manipulation. But if we learn to question, investigate, verify and remain open to changing our understanding, the same AI may become a valuable instrument for developing discernment.

Perhaps, the greatest gift of AI will not be that it provides answers to all our questions. It may be that it teaches us to question our answers. And perhaps, when appearances become increasingly difficult to distinguish from reality, humanity may finally begin to understand the importance of awareness.

In that sense, Artificial Intelligence may become a blessing in disguise. It may become a tool that helps us recognise the limitations of our senses, the uncertainty of our knowledge and the importance of remaining alert to what is happening within and around us. Ultimately, no technology can make us aware if we are unwilling to look within ourselves. AI can provide information, generate possibilities and assist our investigation, but awareness must emerge through our own observation and understanding.

The real question, therefore, is not whether Artificial Intelligence will become more intelligent. The real question is whether human beings will become more aware. If AI can help us move from blind belief to conscious investigation, from information to understanding and from unconscious reaction to awareness, then this technological revolution may become much more than a revolution in machines. It may also become an opportunity for human evolution.
