Now, let’s understand Sedna on the basis of following points –

Sedna in Mythology.

Mythological Story of Sedna.

Representations from the Mythological Story.

Interpretation of Sedna.

How to find Sedna?

Let’s cover all points one after the other –

Sedna in Mythology and Astrology –– Sedna is the goddess of the sea and marine animals in Inuit mythology. Sedna is also known as the Mother of the Sea or Mistress of the Sea.

Mythological Story of Sedna – Mythology presents Sedna as a rebellious daughter. There are many versions of Sedna’s mythological story but one thing which is common in all is her rebellious nature.

The main story revolves around her marriage where she didn’t want to marry but she was forcefully married to some person by her parents or especially by her Father. In an act of defiance towards her Father, she leaves her Husband and marries a Dog. Infuriated Father takes her on a boat forcefully and pushes her off-the-boat in middle of sea. She tries to cling on to boat but her Father takes cuts off her fingers/palms/hands which made her sink to the bottom of the sea. She makes the bottom of sea as her home and rules over sea-creatures. Mythology says that her fingers, palms and hands become sea-creatures like fishes etc. As she rules over sea-creatures, she is the Goddess which people worship who are dependent of sea-food.

Representations from the Mythological Story – From this story, we can understand that Sedna has much resemblance with rebellious Lilith - https://www.astrosaxena.com/Lilith. Sedna is as rebellious as Lilith. Also, the chaotic nature of story and the fact that she becomes the Goddess of the underworld (Sea), we can relate Sedna with Scorpio and Pluto energy too.

Interpretation of Sedna – Now, as per my little understanding of this mythological story, Sedna’s position in your chart shows –

a. It certainly represents relationship issues as the whole story begins from Sedna’s reluctance towards relationship.

b. It can also represent dominant parents, especially Father and the native had to rebel against the Father to assert his/her individuality.

c. It would certainly represent a defiant/rebellious person who wants to live life on his/her own terms. It not only represents defiance towards parents but defiance towards people of the house where Sedna is placed. Like in 7th house, person may like to defy their partner time and again, leading to chaos in relation.

d. Sedna’s position in chart can be more relevant for any female in a Patriarchal Society where Father has higher say on Daughter’s life, especially before her marriage.

e. Sedna’s position is also relevant in matters where parents opt of so-called “Honour Killings” of their daughter as she has defied them in one way or the other.

f. Then Sedna’s position can be relevant to assess someone’s intuition or ability to be a deep thinker as Sedna settled down in deep sea.

g. For someone working in fields like Sailing, Fishing, Navy or anything to do with sea-creature or sea-food, Sedna can be important.

h. Sedna’s position can also show betrayal as her Father had thrown her away in sea.

i. Sedna’s position can also indicate Physical Disabilities due to cutting-off of her fingers/hands etc.

j. Sedna can be an important point to understand that in which area person may assert his individuality and be rebellious.

How to find Sedna? - Just like any other Asteroid, Vedic Astrology Softwares rarely give information of Sedna. We need to make chart at any Western Astrology Site or Software. There you will find Sedna’s position. Now, take that Sedna’s position in Western Astrology chart and subtract it by 23 degree. This will give you position of Sedna in your Vedic Astrology chart. For example, Western Astrology chart shows my Sedna at 4.49 degree Taurus. So, I just need to subtract 23 degrees from 4.49 degree Taurus and I will get my Sedna at 10 degree 6th house/Aries as per Vedic Astrology Chart. This site gives information about Asteroid’s position as per tropical zodiac - https://horoscopes.astro-seek.com/birth-chart-horoscope-online. People may find it helpful.
